The Ares IV mission was a proposed manned mission to Mars during the 2040's. It was later terminated after astronaut Mark Watney used Ares IV's MAV to depart Mars.
Watney's Escape[]
After deducing that the Ares IV landing site would be in the Schiaparelli Crater, he began a series of tests that brought his rover closer and closer to the crater. Watney eventually reached the Ares IV's MAV and was flown off the planet to meet up with the Hermes.
